- For the dumplings:
- - 1 pound ground beef
- - 1 onion, finely chopped
- - 2 cloves garlic, minced
- - 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- - 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- - 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
- - Salt and pepper to taste
- - 1 package dumpling wrappers
- For the tomato sauce:
- - 1 can crushed tomatoes
- - 1 onion, finely chopped
- - 2 cloves garlic, minced
- - 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- - 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- - 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
- - Salt and pepper to taste
- - 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
- For the yogurt sauce:
- - 1 cup plain yogurt
- - 1 clove garlic, minced
- - Salt to taste
- - Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- 1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, ground cumin, ground coriander, ground turmeric, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- 2. Take a dumpling wrapper and place a spoonful of the beef mixture in the center. Fold the wrapper in half to form a half-moon shape and press the edges together to seal. Repeat with the remaining wrappers and beef mixture.
- 3. Place the dumplings in a steamer basket and steam for about 15-20 minutes, or until cooked through.
- 4. While the dumplings are steaming, prepare the tomato sauce. In a saucepan, heat some oil over medium heat and sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic until softened. Add the crushed tomatoes, ground cumin, ground coriander, ground turmeric, salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 10 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened slightly. Stir in the chopped cilantro.
- 5. In a small bowl, mix together the plain yogurt, minced garlic, and salt to taste.
- 6. To serve, place some of the steamed dumplings on a plate and spoon some of the tomato sauce over them. Drizzle with the yogurt sauce and garnish with fresh cilantro.
