Ingredients

  • 1 cup chickpeas, cooked and mashed
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup nutritional yeast
  • 1/4 cup ground flaxseed
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine the mashed chickpeas, breadcrumbs, nutritional yeast, ground flaxseed, water, soy sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using). Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly combined.
  • Shape the mixture into small nugget shapes, about 1 inch in diameter.
  • Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry the nuggets for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  • Remove the nuggets from the pan and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  • Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce or as a topping for salads or wraps.
