About this recipe

These Tangy Orange Lemon Bars offer the perfect blend of sweetness and tartness, creating a delightful burst of citrus in every bite. Ideal for a light dessert or a refreshing snack, these bars are both easy to make and sure to impress your guests with their vibrant flavors.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon grated orange zest
  • 1 tablespoon grated lemon zest
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Directions

  1. 1

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper.

  2. 2

In a medium bowl, combine the flour and powdered sugar. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  3. 3

Press the mixture firmly into the bottom of the prepared pan. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until lightly golden.

  4. 4

While the crust bakes, whisk eggs, granulated sugar, orange juice, lemon juice, orange zest, lemon zest, baking powder, and salt until smooth.

  5. 5

Pour the citrus mixture over the hot crust and return to the oven.

  6. 6

Bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until the filling is set.

  7. 7

Let the bars cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.

  8. 8

Once cooled, cut into squares and serve with a dusting of powdered sugar if desired.

Chef's tip

For a more pronounced citrus flavor, consider adding a small amount of food-grade orange or lemon extract. Ensure the bars are completely cooled before cutting to achieve clean edges.
