About this recipe

Spongy circular parathas are a delightful Indian bread known for their soft and fluffy texture with a slightly crispy exterior. Perfect as a breakfast option or a side dish, these parathas meld simple ingredients into a mouthwatering culinary experience. Serve them hot with yogurt or pickle for a satisfying meal.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup yogurt
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • Water (as needed)

Directions

  1. 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour, yogurt, salt, baking powder, and oil. Mix thoroughly.

  2. 2

Gradually add water and knead to form a soft, smooth dough. Cover and let rest for 15-20 minutes.

  3. 3

Divide the dough into small balls and roll each into a 6-7 inch circle.

  4. 4

Heat a griddle or tawa over medium heat. Place a paratha on it and cook for 1-2 minutes until bubbles appear.

  5. 5

Flip the paratha, apply a little oil or ghee, and cook for another 1-2 minutes until golden brown.

  6. 6

Repeat with remaining dough balls. Serve hot with yogurt or pickle.

Chef's tip

To add extra flavor, try incorporating herbs or spices like cumin or cilantro into the dough.
