Ingredients

  • 1 cup rice
  • 1 cup lentils
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • Fresh cilantro, for garnish

Instructions

  • 1. Rinse the rice and lentils under cold water.
  • 2. In a large pot, heat the oil over medium heat.
  • 3. Add the onion and garlic to the pot and cook until softened.
  • 4. Add the cumin, turmeric, and salt to the pot and stir to combine.
  • 5. Add the rice, lentils, and water to the pot and bring to a boil.
  • 6. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer for 20 minutes or until the rice and lentils are cooked and tender.
  • 7. Remove the pot from the heat and let it sit, covered, for 5 minutes.
  • 8. Fluff the rice and lentils with a fork and garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
