- 1 cup brown lentils
- 4 cups water
- 1 onion, finely sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Fresh cilantro, chopped, for garnish

Rinse the rice and lentils under cold water and set aside.

In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and stir until fragrant.
