Ingredients

  • 2 cups of rice
  • 1 pound of chicken, cut into pieces
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon of ginger paste
  • 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon of cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon of coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon of red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons of oil
  • 2 cups of water
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnishing

Instructions

  • Wash the rice thoroughly and soak it in water for 30 minutes.
  • Heat oil in a large pan and add the chopped onion. Cook until the onion turns golden brown.
  • Add the minced garlic and ginger paste to the pan. Cook for a minute until the raw smell disappears.
  • Add the chicken pieces to the pan and cook until they are browned on all sides.
  • Add the turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, and salt to the pan. Mix well to coat the chicken with the spices.
  • Drain the soaked rice and add it to the pan. Stir well to combine the rice with the chicken and spices.
  • Add water to the pan and bring it to a boil. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pan, and let it simmer for about 20 minutes or until the rice is cooked and the chicken is tender.
  • Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot.
