Ingredients

  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 2 tbsp besan (gram flour)
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 2-3 dried red chilies
  • 10-12 curry leaves
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 2-3 green chilies, slit
  • 1/2 tsp asafoetida
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 tbsp oil

Instructions

  • In a bowl, whisk together yogurt, besan, turmeric powder, and water until smooth.
  • Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, dried red chilies, curry leaves, ginger, and green chilies. Saute for a minute.
  • Add the yogurt mixture to the pan and stir well. Add salt, sugar, and asafoetida.
  • Let the kadhi simmer on low heat for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Adjust the consistency by adding more water if needed.
  • Serve hot with steamed rice or khichdi.
