Dohnut Delight

About this recipe

Experience the joy of making your own batch of fluffy, golden donuts. These delightful treats are easy to prepare, using ingredients you likely already have at home. Follow these straightforward steps to create a heavenly mix of sweetness and crispiness, ideal for breakfast or any time you crave a sweet escape.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (240mL) warm milk
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups (500g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 quarts oil for frying
  • 2 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk

Directions

  1. 1

Proof the yeast in warm milk for 5 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

Mix eggs, sugar, butter, salt, and yeast mixture in a bowl.

  3. 3

Gradually add flour, kneading until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled.

  5. 5

Roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness and cut into donut shapes.

  6. 6

Heat oil to 350°F (175°C) in a deep fryer.

  7. 7

Fry donuts in batches until golden brown, about 1 minute per side.

  8. 8

Drain on a wire rack and glaze with a mixture of confectioners' sugar and milk.

Chef's tip

Be sure your oil maintains a temperature of 350°F for optimal frying. Overcrowding the fryer can reduce oil temperature and result in greasy donuts.
