Beer Can Chicken

About this recipe

Beer Can Chicken is an easy and flavorful way to enjoy a whole chicken. This method keeps the chicken juicy while imparting delightful smoky flavors. Simple seasoning and the unique cooking process ensure tender and tasty results.

Ingredients

  • 1 whole chicken (4-5 pounds)
  • 1 can of beer (12 ounces)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

  1. 1

    Preheat grill to 375°F (190°C).

  2. 2

Mix olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, oregano, brown sugar, salt, and pepper in a bowl.

  3. 3

Pat chicken dry with paper towels. Rub the spice mixture all over the chicken, inside and out.

  4. 4

Open the can of beer and pour out (or drink) about half.

  5. 5

Place chicken over the beer can by inserting the can into the cavity.

  6. 6

Stand the chicken upright using a beer can chicken holder for stability if available.

  7. 7

Place chicken on the grill, cover, and cook for about 90 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).

  8. 8

Remove chicken from the grill and let it rest for 10 minutes before carving.

Chef's tip

For extra stability, use a beer can chicken holder. Let the chicken rest before carving to retain juices.
