About this recipe

Experience the true taste of Italy with our modern Margherita pizza recipe—a home-baked delight with fresh tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, and fragrant basil. This easy-to-follow recipe ensures a delicious pizza that's crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. A perfect meal for any occasion!

Ingredients

  • 1 store-bought pizza dough or homemade dough
  • 1/3 cup tomato sauce
  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • 1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Kosher salt
  • Black pepper
  • Extra-virgin olive oil

Directions

  1. 1

Preheat the oven to 500°F (260°C) and place a pizza stone inside.

  2. 2

On a floured surface, roll or stretch the pizza dough to your preferred thickness.

  3. 3

Transfer the dough to a floured pizza peel or sheet of parchment paper.

  4. 4

Spread the tomato sauce over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.

  5. 5

Distribute the mozzarella slices evenly over the sauce.

  6. 6

Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese, a pinch of salt, and pepper to taste.

  7. 7

Carefully slide the pizza onto the preheated stone and bake for 7-10 minutes, until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.

  8. 8

Remove from the oven, garnish with fresh basil leaves, and drizzle a little olive oil over the top before serving.

Chef's tip

If you don't have a pizza stone, you can use a baking sheet instead. For extra flavor, add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes before serving.
