Ingredients
- 1 cup chopped dates
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 3/4 cups flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
- In a small bowl, combine the chopped dates, boiling water, and baking soda. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time.
- In a separate bowl, combine the flour, salt, baking powder, and cocoa powder.
- Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture alternately with the milk, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in the date mixture and vanilla extract.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
- Let cool before serving.
