Ingredients
- 1 cup lentils
- 1 cup rice
- 2 tablespoons ghee
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- Salt to taste
- 4 cups water
Instructions
- 1. Rinse the lentils and rice separately under running water.
- 2. In a large pot, heat ghee over medium heat.
- 3. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
- 4. Add chopped onions and garlic, sauté until translucent.
- 5. Add turmeric, coriander powder, and garam masala. Stir well.
- 6. Add the rinsed lentils and rice, mix well with the spices.
- 7. Add water and salt. Bring to a boil.
- 8. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 20-25 minutes or until lentils and rice are cooked through.
- 9. Serve hot with a dollop of ghee and a side of yogurt or pickle.
