Ingredients

  • 1 cup lentils
  • 1 cup rice
  • 2 tablespoons ghee
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • 4 cups water

Instructions

  • 1. Rinse the lentils and rice separately under running water.
  • 2. In a large pot, heat ghee over medium heat.
  • 3. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  • 4. Add chopped onions and garlic, sauté until translucent.
  • 5. Add turmeric, coriander powder, and garam masala. Stir well.
  • 6. Add the rinsed lentils and rice, mix well with the spices.
  • 7. Add water and salt. Bring to a boil.
  • 8. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 20-25 minutes or until lentils and rice are cooked through.
  • 9. Serve hot with a dollop of ghee and a side of yogurt or pickle.
