Ingredients
- 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 cup dairy-free milk (such as almond milk or coconut milk)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
- 1. In a shallow dish, combine the flour, salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, dried thyme, dried oregano, and cayenne pepper. Mix well.
- 2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the dairy-free milk and lemon juice. This will create a buttermilk-like mixture.
- 3. Cut the chicken breasts into strips or nugget-sized pieces.
- 4. Dip each piece of chicken into the flour mixture, coating it evenly. Shake off any excess flour.
- 5. Dip the coated chicken into the dairy-free milk mixture, allowing any excess to drip off.
- 6. Return the chicken to the flour mixture and coat it again, pressing the flour mixture onto the chicken to ensure it sticks.
- 7. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or deep fryer to 350°F (175°C).
- 8. Carefully place the coated chicken into the hot oil, cooking in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding the pan.
- 9. Fry the chicken for about 5-6 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- 10. Remove the chicken from the oil and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
- 11. Serve the dairy-free chicken fried hot, with your favorite dipping sauce or alongside mashed potatoes and vegetables.
- 12. Enjoy!
