Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (6 oz) tomato paste
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 container (15 oz) ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 12 lasagna noodles, cooked and drained

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F.
  • In a large skillet, cook ground beef, onion, and garlic over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain.
  • Stir in tomato sauce, tomato paste, diced tomatoes, sugar, basil, salt, and pepper.
  • In a small bowl, combine ricotta cheese and egg.
  • Spread 1 cup of meat sauce in an ungreased 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Layer with 4 noodles, a third of the ricotta mixture, a third of the mozzarella, and a third of the Parmesan cheese.
  • Repeat layers twice.
  • Cover and bake for 25 minutes.
  • Uncover and bake an additional 25 minutes.
  • Let stand for 15 minutes before cutting.
