About this recipe

This Chatpata Octopus Delight is a perfect fusion of spices and flavors for seafood lovers. Tender octopus cooked with Indian spices brings an exciting twist to your dinner table.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg octopus
  • 2 medium onions, finely chopped
  • 2 medium tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 2 green chilies, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Directions

  1. 1

Clean and rinse the octopus thoroughly under cold water.

  2. 2

Cut the octopus into bite-sized pieces.

  3. 3

Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat and sauté the onions until they are golden brown.

  4. 4

Add the ginger-garlic paste and cook for another minute.

  5. 5

Stir in the tomatoes and green chilies, cooking until the tomatoes soften.

  6. 6

Mix in the turmeric, red chili powder, and garam masala, and sauté for another minute.

  7. 7

Add the octopus and stir well to coat with the spices.

  8. 8

Cover and cook for 25 minutes, or until the octopus is tender.

  9. 9

Add lemon juice and salt, adjust seasoning as desired, and cook for another 2 minutes.

  10. 10

Serve hot with rice or roti.

Chef's tip

Ensure the octopus is fully cooked until tender to avoid a rubbery texture. Adjust the spice level to taste by varying the number of chilies.
