About this recipe

Indulge in this modern take on beef short ribs, slow-cooked to tender perfection in a savory broth enhanced with soy sauce and spices. This dish marries rich flavors with simple preparation techniques, making it ideal for cozy family dinners or special occasions.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds beef short ribs
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme

Directions

  1. 1

Preheat the oven to 325°F (163°C).

  2. 2

Season beef short ribs with salt and pepper.

  3. 3

In a large Dutch oven, heat oil over medium-high heat. Brown ribs on all sides for 2-3 minutes per side.

  4. 4

Remove ribs and set aside. Sauté garlic and ginger for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  5. 5

Add broth, soy sauce, brown sugar, bay leaves, and thyme. Bring to a simmer.

  6. 6

Return ribs to the pot, submerging in liquid. Cover and transfer to oven.

  7. 7

Bake for 3 hours or until tender, checking occasionally.

  8. 8

Remove ribs, strain and reduce sauce on the stovetop, then serve over ribs.

Chef's tip

For enhanced flavor, try marinating the ribs overnight in the soy sauce mixture before cooking.
