Ingredients

  • 4 large apples
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Peel, core, and slice the apples.
  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  • Cut the butter into small pieces and add it to the flour mixture. Use your hands or a pastry cutter to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Place half of the apple slices in a greased baking dish. Sprinkle with half of the lemon juice and half of the flour mixture.
  • Repeat with the remaining apple slices, lemon juice, and flour mixture.
  • Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the crust is golden brown.
  • Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
