About this recipe

A traditional North Indian favorite, Aloo Paratha brings comfort and taste to your table. These flatbreads are stuffed with a spiced potato mixture and cooked to a golden finish, perfect for a hearty breakfast or meal. Enjoy them with a side of yogurt or pickle for a complete experience.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 4 medium potatoes, boiled and mashed
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh coriander, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Ghee or oil for cooking

Directions

  1. 1

Combine whole wheat flour with salt and enough water to form a soft dough. Knead well and rest for 15 minutes.

  2. 2

Mix mashed potatoes with onion, green chilies, ginger-garlic paste, cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric, red chili powder, coriander, and salt.

  3. 3

Divide dough into equal balls and roll each into a small circle.

  4. 4

Place potato filling in the center of each circle, gather the edges to seal, then roll gently into a larger circle.

  5. 5

Heat a griddle over medium heat and cook paratha for about 1 minute on each side, applying ghee or oil.

  6. 6

Continue until paratha is golden brown with spots, serving hot along with yogurt or pickle.

Chef's tip
