Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
  • 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  • In a large skillet, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic over medium heat until the meat is browned and the onion is tender. Drain any excess fat.
  • Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, sugar, basil, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Meanwhile, cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish. Arrange 4 lasagna noodles on top of the sauce. Spread 1/3 of the ricotta cheese over the noodles, followed by 1/3 of the mozzarella cheese and 1/3 of the Parmesan cheese. Repeat the layers two more times, ending with a layer of meat sauce and a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese.
  • Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the lasagna is hot and bubbly.
  • Let the lasagna cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped parsley, if desired.
  • Serve and enjoy!
