Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles (optional)
  • Special sauce (mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, pickle relish, garlic powder, onion powder)

Instructions

  • In a bowl, mix together the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  • Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into patties.
  • Heat a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
  • Place the patties on the hot skillet and use a spatula to smash them down.
  • Cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until desired doneness.
  • During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheese on each patty to melt.
  • Toast the hamburger buns on the skillet or grill.
  • Spread the special sauce on the bottom bun.
  • Top with the cooked patty, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles (if desired), and the top bun.
