Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 can diced tomatoes
- 1 can tomato sauce
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cornmeal
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F.
- In a large skillet, cook ground beef, onion, and green pepper over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain.
- Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, garlic powder, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Pour meat mixture into a greased 9-inch deep dish pie plate. Sprinkle with cheddar cheese.
- In a medium bowl, combine flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In a small bowl, beat egg, milk, and oil. Stir into dry ingredients just until moistened.
- Spread batter over meat mixture.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.
