Ingredients

  • 1 pound beef brisket
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons ginger, grated
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 4 star anise
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons fish sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha sauce
  • 8 ounces rice noodles
  • Bean sprouts, basil leaves, lime wedges, and sliced jalapenos for serving

Instructions

  • In a large pot, add the beef brisket, onion, garlic, ginger, cinnamon sticks, and star anise.
  • Pour in the beef broth and chicken broth.
  • Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 2 hours, until the beef is tender.
  • Remove the beef brisket from the pot and slice thinly.
  • Strain the broth and return it to the pot.
  • Stir in the fish sauce, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, and sriracha sauce.
  • Cook the rice noodles according to package instructions.
  • Divide the cooked noodles among serving bowls.
  • Top with sliced beef brisket and pour the hot broth over the noodles.
  • Serve with bean sprouts, basil leaves, lime wedges, and sliced jalapenos.
