About this recipe

Experience the comforting warmth of our modern chicken and dumplings, simmered to perfection with tender chicken and fluffy dumplings. Enhanced with subtle spices and finished with fresh herbs, this classic dish gets a delightful twist for today's kitchen.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 carrots, peeled and chopped
  • 3 celery stalks, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 5 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped

Directions

  1. 1

Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, carrots, and celery; sauté for 5 minutes.

  2. 2

Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 more minute. Add chicken broth and bring to a gentle boil.

  3. 3

Add chicken breasts, reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes until cooked. Remove chicken and shred.

  4. 4

While chicken is cooking, prepare the dumplings: In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and thyme. Add milk and melted butter; stir to form a dough.

  5. 5

Drop spoonfuls of dumpling batter into the simmering broth. Cover and cook for 10 minutes until dumplings are fluffy.

  6. 6

Add shredded chicken and peas back to the pot, stir, and season with salt and pepper. Cook for an additional 5 minutes.

  7. 7

Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley.

Chef's tip

For a creamier broth, consider adding a splash of half and half. Feel free to adjust seasonings to taste, incorporating your favorite herbs and spices.
