Experience the perfect balance of flavors with this Spinach and Feta Burek. This Mediterranean-inspired pastry features flaky phyllo dough wrapped around a savory filling of spinach, feta, and herbs. Perfect for any meal, this dish is sure to delight your taste buds and become a family favorite.

Ingredients

  • 1 package phyllo dough
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound fresh spinach, chopped
  • 1 cup crumbled feta cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh dill
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds (optional)

Directions

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. 2

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion and garlic; sauté for 4-5 minutes until softened.

  3. 3

Add spinach and cook until wilted, about 3-4 minutes. Remove extra liquid and let cool slightly.

  4. 4

Stir in feta cheese, parsley, dill, salt, pepper, and one beaten egg until well combined.

  5. 5

Unroll phyllo dough and cover with a damp towel. Place one sheet on a flat surface and brush with some of the second beaten egg. Repeat layering with 5 more sheets.

  6. 6

Spread spinach mixture evenly, leaving a 1-inch border. Roll tightly, tucking in the ends, and brush top with remaining egg. Sprinkle with sesame seeds if using.

  7. 7

Place on a baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.

  8. 8

Allow to cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Chef's tip

Allow the filling to cool before wrapping in phyllo to prevent sogginess.
