  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 cup chopped dates
  • 1 cup chopped dried figs
  • 1 cup honey

Directions

  1. 1

    Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. 2

In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, butter, milk, vanilla, baking powder, and salt until a dough forms.

  3. 3

Press half of the dough into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.

  4. 4

Combine walnuts, dates, and figs in a separate bowl and spread over the dough in the dish.

  5. 5

Crumble the remaining dough over the nut and fruit mixture.

  6. 6

Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.

  7. 7

Heat honey gently in a saucepan until warm.

  8. 8

Pour warm honey over the dessert as soon as it comes out of the oven.

  9. 9

Let cool completely, then cut into squares and serve.

Chef's tip

Ensure the dried fruits and nuts are finely chopped to allow even baking and distribution throughout the dish.
