Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef, cut into small cubes
  • 2 cups basmati rice
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro leaves

Instructions

  • Wash the rice and soak it in water for 30 minutes.
  • Heat the oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  • Add the onion, garlic, and ginger, and sauté until the onion is translucent.
  • Add the beef and cook until browned on all sides.
  • Add the tomatoes, yogurt, and spices, and stir well.
  • Add the water and bring to a boil.
  • Drain the rice and add it to the pot.
  • Stir well and cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid.
  • Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until the rice is cooked and the liquid has been absorbed.
  • Garnish with cilantro leaves and serve hot.
