Ingredients

  • 1 package of phyllo dough
  • 1 cup of chopped nuts (such as walnuts or pistachios)
  • 1 cup of melted butter
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a saucepan, combine the sugar, water, and vanilla extract. Bring to a boil and let simmer for 10 minutes.
  • In a separate bowl, mix together the chopped nuts and ground cinnamon.
  • Brush a baking dish with melted butter.
  • Place a sheet of phyllo dough in the baking dish and brush with melted butter. Repeat this step with several more sheets of phyllo dough.
  • Sprinkle a layer of the nut mixture over the phyllo dough.
  • Continue layering phyllo dough and nut mixture until all ingredients are used, ending with a layer of phyllo dough on top.
  • Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and pour the syrup over the hot baklava.
  • Let the baklava cool completely before serving.
