Baklava Bliss

About this recipe

Experience the authentic taste of Baklava, a rich, sweet pastry made with delicate layers of phyllo dough, crunchy nuts, and drizzled with aromatic honey syrup. This modern take simplifies the classic technique to bring this Middle Eastern favorite to your kitchen with ease.

Ingredients

  • 1 package of phyllo dough (14 oz)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup walnuts, finely chopped
  • 1 cup pistachios, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 strip of orange peel

Directions

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. 2

In a saucepan, combine sugar, water, honey, vanilla extract, and orange peel. Boil and simmer for 15 minutes, then let cool.

  3. 3

Mix chopped walnuts, pistachios, and cinnamon in a bowl.

  4. 4

Brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter. Lay a sheet of phyllo dough, brush with butter, and repeat for 10 sheets.

  5. 5

Spread a thin layer of nut mixture over phyllo. Cover with 5 more sheets of phyllo, brushing each with butter.

  6. 6

Repeat layers until ingredients are used, finishing with 10 layers of buttered phyllo.

  7. 7

Cut the assembled baklava into diamond shapes with a sharp knife.

  8. 8

Bake in the oven for 45 minutes until golden brown. Pour cooled syrup evenly over hot baklava and let it cool completely.

Chef's tip

Ensure phyllo dough is covered with a damp cloth while working to prevent drying out. Adjust nuts as preferred.
