Vegetarian Paneer Parantha

About this recipe

Paneer Parantha is a beloved Indian flatbread filled with spiced paneer, perfect for any meal. This recipe ensures a soft, pliable dough filled with a rich mixture of paneer and aromatic spices for a satisfying vegetarian treat.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup paneer, grated or crumbled
  • 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup coriander leaves, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garam masala
  • Salt, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons ghee or oil, plus more for cooking
  • Approximately 1/2 to 3/4 cup water

Directions

  1. 1

Combine whole wheat flour and salt in a mixing bowl. Add ghee and mix well.

  2. 2

Gradually add water and knead into a soft dough. Cover and rest for 20 minutes.

  3. 3

Prepare the filling by mixing paneer, onions, coriander, cumin, chili powder, turmeric, garam masala, and salt.

  4. 4

Divide the dough into equal balls. Roll one into a disc, place the filling in the center, and seal the edges.

  5. 5

Gently roll out the filled dough ball into a flatbread, ensuring the filling stays inside.

  6. 6

Heat a griddle over medium heat and cook the parantha until golden brown spots appear on both sides, applying ghee or oil.

  7. 7

Serve hot with yogurt or chutney.

Chef's tip

Keep the dough covered to prevent drying out. Adjust spices according to preference.
