Ingredients
- 1 cup tamarind pulp
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon black peppercorns
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon fenugreek seeds
- 1 tablespoon ghee
- 10-12 curry leaves
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups water
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat the ghee over medium heat.
- Add the mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and fenugreek seeds. Cook until the seeds start to splutter.
- Add the curry leaves and minced garlic. Cook for a minute until fragrant.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they become soft and mushy.
- Add the tamarind pulp, turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, and black peppercorns. Mix well.
- Add water and salt. Bring the mixture to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to low and let the rasam simmer for about 10-15 minutes.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
- Serve hot with rice or enjoy as a soup.
