  • 1 cup tamarind pulp
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon black peppercorns
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon fenugreek seeds
  • 1 tablespoon ghee
  • 10-12 curry leaves
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups water
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  • In a large pot, heat the ghee over medium heat.
  • Add the mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and fenugreek seeds. Cook until the seeds start to splutter.
  • Add the curry leaves and minced garlic. Cook for a minute until fragrant.
  • Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they become soft and mushy.
  • Add the tamarind pulp, turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, and black peppercorns. Mix well.
  • Add water and salt. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  • Reduce the heat to low and let the rasam simmer for about 10-15 minutes.
  • Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
  • Serve hot with rice or enjoy as a soup.
