Ingredients

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 package Oreo cookies
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 8 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a large bowl, combine cake mix, water, oil, and eggs. Beat with an electric mixer on low speed for 30 seconds, then on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  • Crush 15 Oreos and fold into the cake batter. Divide batter evenly between prepared pans.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool in pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and cool completely on wire racks.
  • In a large bowl, beat butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla, beating until smooth.
  • Crush 10 Oreos and fold into the frosting. Place one cake layer on a serving plate and spread with frosting. Top with second cake layer and frost top and sides of cake.
  • In a small saucepan, heat cream until just simmering. Remove from heat and add chopped chocolate. Let sit for 5 minutes, then stir until smooth.
  • Pour ganache over top of cake, letting it drip down the sides. Crush remaining Oreos and sprinkle over ganache.
  • Refrigerate cake for at least 1 hour before serving.
