Ingredients
- 3 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, honey, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes, or until the yeast is foamy.
- Add the olive oil, salt, and 2 cups of whole wheat flour to the bowl. Stir until well combined.
- Gradually add the remaining 1 cup of whole wheat flour, stirring until the dough comes together and pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
- Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and transfer it to a lightly floured surface. Shape it into a loaf and place it in a greased 9x5-inch loaf pan.
- Cover the pan with a clean kitchen towel and let the dough rise for another 30-45 minutes, or until it has risen about 1 inch above the rim of the pan.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake the bread for 30-35 minutes, or until it is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 5 minutes. Then, transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
- Serve and enjoy!
