Ingredients

  • 4 large onions
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup white wine
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 4 slices of French bread
  • 1 cup grated Gruyere cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • 1. Slice the onions thinly.
  • 2. In a large pot, melt the butter and olive oil over medium heat.
