Ingredients
- 4 large onions
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 4 cups beef broth
- 1 cup white wine
- 1 teaspoon thyme
- 1 bay leaf
- 4 slices of French bread
- 1 cup grated Gruyere cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- 1. Slice the onions thinly.
- 2. In a large pot, melt the butter and olive oil over medium heat.
- 3. Add the sliced onions to the pot and cook until they are caramelized and golden brown, stirring occasionally.
- 4. Sprinkle the sugar over the onions and continue cooking for another 5 minutes.
