Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whipped cream
  • Chocolate shavings for garnish

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x9-inch baking pan.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  • Add the melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and milk to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined.
  • Gradually add the boiling water to the batter, mixing well after each addition.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • While the cake is baking, prepare the chocolate ganache by heating the heavy cream in a small saucepan over medium heat. Bring it to a simmer, then remove from heat.
  • Add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract to the hot cream, stirring until smooth and well combined.
  • Once the cake is done baking, remove it from the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes in the pan.
  • Carefully transfer the cake to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Once the cake has cooled, spread the chocolate ganache evenly over the top.
  • Top with whipped cream and garnish with chocolate shavings.
  • Serve and enjoy!
