Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Your favorite jam or Nutella for filling
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast.
  • Add the warm milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  • Punch down the dough and divide it into small portions. Roll each portion into a ball.
  • Place the balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, cover with a kitchen towel, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  • Carefully drop the bombolini into the hot oil and fry until golden brown on all sides. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
