Ingredients

  • 6 hot dogs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 6 wooden skewers

Instructions

  • 1. Preheat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  • 2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper.
  • 3. In a separate bowl, whisk together milk and egg.
  • 4. Pour the milk mixture into the flour mixture and stir until well combined and smooth.
  • 5. Insert a wooden skewer into each hot dog, leaving about 2 inches at the bottom for a handle.
  • 6. Dip each hot dog into the batter, coating it evenly. Allow any excess batter to drip off.
  • 7. Carefully place the coated hot dogs into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes.
  • 8. Remove the dagwood dogs from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  • 9. Serve the dagwood dogs hot with your favorite dipping sauces.
  • 10. Enjoy!
