Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for caramelizing)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, melted butter, vanilla extract, eggs, and heavy cream.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
- Spoon the batter into a greased doughnut pan, filling each cavity about 3/4 full.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the doughnuts comes out clean.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes.
- While the doughnuts are cooling, sprinkle the granulated sugar evenly over the tops of each doughnut.
- Using a kitchen torch, carefully caramelize the sugar until it forms a crispy, golden crust.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
