Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for caramelizing)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, melted butter, vanilla extract, eggs, and heavy cream.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  • Spoon the batter into a greased doughnut pan, filling each cavity about 3/4 full.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the doughnuts comes out clean.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes.
  • While the doughnuts are cooling, sprinkle the granulated sugar evenly over the tops of each doughnut.
  • Using a kitchen torch, carefully caramelize the sugar until it forms a crispy, golden crust.
