Ingredients

  • 2 sheets of puff pastry
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1/4 cup of cornstarch
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 cup of heavy cream
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Place one sheet of puff pastry onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and puffed up.
  • In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it starts to simmer.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, cornstarch, and egg yolks until well combined.
  • Slowly pour the hot milk into the sugar mixture, whisking constantly.
  • Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Transfer the custard to a bowl and cover with plastic wrap, pressing it directly onto the surface to prevent a skin from forming.
  • Refrigerate for at least 1 hour or until chilled.
  • Once the puff pastry has cooled, place the second sheet on top.
  • Spread the chilled custard evenly over the pastry.
  • In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
  • Spread the whipped cream over the custard layer.
  • Place the vanilla slice in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours to set.
  • Before serving, dust with powdered sugar.
  • Slice into squares and enjoy!
