Ingredients
- 2 sheets of puff pastry
- 1 cup of milk
- 1/2 cup of sugar
- 1/4 cup of cornstarch
- 2 egg yolks
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1 cup of heavy cream
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Place one sheet of puff pastry onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and puffed up.
- In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it starts to simmer.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, cornstarch, and egg yolks until well combined.
- Slowly pour the hot milk into the sugar mixture, whisking constantly.
- Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens.
- Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Transfer the custard to a bowl and cover with plastic wrap, pressing it directly onto the surface to prevent a skin from forming.
- Refrigerate for at least 1 hour or until chilled.
- Once the puff pastry has cooled, place the second sheet on top.
- Spread the chilled custard evenly over the pastry.
- In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
- Spread the whipped cream over the custard layer.
- Place the vanilla slice in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours to set.
- Before serving, dust with powdered sugar.
- Slice into squares and enjoy!
