About this recipe

Discover the joy of making Cheesy Beef Empanadas at home. These delightful hand pies are filled with well-seasoned ground beef and oozy cheddar cheese, all wrapped up in a flaky pastry crust. Perfect for gatherings, they offer a delicious blend of textures and flavors in every bite.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 package refrigerated pie crusts
  • 1 egg, beaten

Directions

  1. 1

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. 2

In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef. Drain excess fat.

  3. 3

Add onion and garlic to the skillet; cook until soft, about 3 minutes.

  4. 4

Season with cumin, paprika, chili powder, salt, and black pepper.

  5. 5

Remove from heat and stir in cheddar cheese. Allow to cool slightly.

  6. 6

Cut pie crust into circles using a 3-inch cutter.

  7. 7

Place a tablespoon of filling on each circle, fold, and crimp edges with a fork.

  8. 8

Brush with beaten egg and bake for 18-20 minutes until golden brown.

Chef's tip

Ensure the beef mixture is cooled before assembling to prevent the dough from becoming soggy.
