Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 package refrigerated pie crusts
- 1 egg, beaten
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess grease.
- Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the ground beef. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, until the onion is softened.
- Stir in the cumin, paprika, chili powder, salt, and black pepper. Cook for another minute to allow the spices to bloom.
- Remove the skillet from the heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
- Unroll the refrigerated pie crusts and use a round cookie cutter or glass to cut out circles from the dough.
- Place a spoonful of the ground beef mixture onto one half of each dough circle. Top with a sprinkle of shredded cheddar cheese.
- Fold the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape. Use a fork to crimp the edges and seal the empanadas.
- Brush the tops of the empanadas with the beaten egg to give them a golden brown color when baked.
- Transfer the empanadas to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and crispy.
- Allow the empanadas to cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy!
