Apple Cider Brined BBQ Turkey

About this recipe

Experience the perfect combination of sweet and savory with this apple cider brined turkey, cooked to succulent perfection on the BBQ. The apple cider and spice-infused brine ensures a juicy bird every time, while the BBQ adds a smoky finish. Ideal for special occasions and festive gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 turkey, 12-14 pounds
  • 1 gallon apple cider
  • 1 cup kosher salt
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons black peppercorns
  • 2 tablespoons allspice berries
  • 2 tablespoons juniper berries
  • 2 tablespoons dried rosemary
  • 2 tablespoons dried thyme
  • 2 tablespoons garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons onion powder
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

Directions

  1. 1

Combine apple cider, salt, sugar, peppercorns, allspice, juniper, rosemary, thyme, garlic powder, and onion powder in a pot. Stir to dissolve and boil, then cool completely.

  2. 2

Remove turkey giblets. Rinse the turkey and submerge it in the cooled brine, ensuring it's fully covered. Refrigerate for 12-24 hours.

  3. 3

Rinse brined turkey thoroughly under cold water and pat dry.

  4. 4

Preheat BBQ to medium-high heat (about 375°F).

  5. 5

Rub turkey with melted butter, getting underneath the skin where possible.

  6. 6

Place turkey breast side up on the BBQ, cover, and cook for 2.5-3 hours, or until internal temperature reaches 165°F.

  7. 7

Let turkey rest for 20 minutes before carving.

  8. 8

Slice and serve your delectably juicy BBQ turkey.

Chef's tip

Ensure the BBQ maintains consistent heat for even cooking. Adjust charcoal or burners if necessary to manage temperature.
