About this recipe

Bring the taste of Portugal to your kitchen with these crispy Bolinho de Bacalhau. Made with salted codfish, fluffy potatoes, and aromatic herbs, these deep-fried fritters offer a golden, crunchy exterior and tender inside. Perfect for appetizers or party snacks.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb salted codfish
  • 2 large potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Directions

  1. 1

Soak the codfish in water overnight to remove excess salt. Drain well.

  2. 2

Boil potatoes in a pot until tender, then drain and mash.

  3. 3

Mix shredded codfish, mashed potatoes, onion, garlic, parsley, flour, and eggs in a large bowl.

  4. 4

Season the mixture with salt and pepper.

  5. 5

Heat oil in a deep fryer to 350°F (175°C).

  6. 6

Scoop and shape the mixture into small balls using two spoons.

  7. 7

Fry the balls in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per batch.

  8. 8

Drain on paper towels and serve hot.

Chef's tip

Ensure the oil is at the correct temperature to achieve the perfect crispy texture without burning the fritters.
