Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Food coloring (optional)
- Sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined.
- Stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin, but that's okay.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
- Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- While the cakes are cooling, prepare the frosting. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy.
- Gradually add the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract. Beat until smooth and creamy.
- If desired, add food coloring to the frosting to create a fun and festive look.
- Once the cakes are completely cooled, frost the top of one cake layer. Place the second cake layer on top and frost the entire cake.
- Decorate with sprinkles, if desired.
- Slice and serve the birthday bliss cake to enjoy!
