Modern Dutch Steak with Kale and Apple

About this recipe

This dish combines succulent steak with crisp kale and sweet-tart apples for a balanced and nutritious meal. By blending the richness of the steak with the freshness of kale and apples, this recipe offers a comforting yet sophisticated dining experience.

Ingredients

  • 2 ribeye steaks, about 200g each
  • 1 bunch curly kale, stems removed and leaves chopped
  • 2 red apples, cored and thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 teaspoon chili flakes
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Directions

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

  2. 2

Season the steaks with salt and freshly ground black pepper.

  3. 3

Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat.

  4. 4

Sear the steaks for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown, then transfer the skillet to the oven for 5-7 minutes, or until desired doneness.

  5. 5

Remove the skillet from the oven and let the steaks rest on a cutting board.

  6. 6

In another pan, heat the remaining olive oil. Add the garlic and chili flakes, then the kale. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until wilted.

  7. 7

Add sliced apples and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until apples are tender.

  8. 8

Slice the rested steaks and serve on a bed of kale and apples.

Chef's tip

Resting the steaks allows the juices to redistribute, ensuring tenderness.
