Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1/2 cup sourdough starter
  • 2 teaspoons salt

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, water, and sourdough starter. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  • Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let it sit at room temperature for 12-18 hours, or until the dough has doubled in size and has bubbles on the surface.
  • Sprinkle the salt over the dough and fold it in gently. Let the dough rest for 30 minutes.
  • After the resting period, fold the dough again to incorporate the salt. Let it rest for another 30 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Place a Dutch oven or a baking dish with a lid in the oven to preheat as well.
  • Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it on a piece of parchment paper. Cover it with a kitchen towel and let it rise for 1-2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
  • Carefully remove the preheated Dutch oven from the oven. Transfer the dough, along with the parchment paper, into the Dutch oven. Score the top of the dough with a sharp knife.
  • Cover the Dutch oven with the lid and bake for 30 minutes. Then, remove the lid and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown.
  • Remove the bread from the Dutch oven and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
