Ingredients

  • 1 12-14 lb turkey
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp dried thyme
  • 1 tbsp dried rosemary
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 325°F.
  • Remove giblets and neck from turkey cavity and rinse turkey inside and out with cold water. Pat dry with paper towels.
  • In a small bowl, mix together garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, thyme, rosemary, salt, and black pepper.
  • Rub the spice mixture all over the turkey, including under the skin and inside the cavity.
  • In a separate bowl, mix together apple cider, BBQ sauce, and melted butter.
  • Brush the turkey with the apple cider mixture, making sure to coat it evenly.
  • Place the turkey on a roasting rack in a large roasting pan. Cover the turkey loosely with foil.
  • Roast the turkey for 2-3 hours, basting with the apple cider mixture every 30 minutes.
  • Remove the foil during the last 30 minutes of cooking to allow the skin to brown.
  • Check the internal temperature of the turkey with a meat thermometer. It should read 165°F in the thickest part of the thigh.
  • Let the turkey rest for 20-30 minutes before carving.
